October 2016 enewsletter
LTA:
STC members who are British Tennis Members (BTMs) will hopefully all have received an email from the LTA asking them to opt in for the Wimbledon 2017 ballot. If you have not yet done this, please could you follow the simple steps to opt in. STC now has over 200 members, of which 119 are signed up BTMs and 36 of these have opted in, so we have a long way to go to reach the numbers we achieved for this year’s Wimbledon. If you have not yet become a BTM, please visit the LTA website and follow the instructions. The more members who opt in, the more tickets we shall be allocated for our own ballot.
Next Committee Meeting:
This will take place on Friday 21st October (tomorrow) at 7pm at Jon and Ash’s house. If you have any suggestions, please place them in the suggestion box in the clubhouse before the next meeting. As a committee, we really do welcome your views and ideas on any aspect of STC.
Bristow Doubles Tournament:
Unfortunately, this tournament, which had been scheduled for this Sunday, has had to be cancelled due to not enough pairs entering.
It has been a disappointing season for Junior Tournaments. Hopefully this will improve next year. Any interested members’ views would be welcome.
Wilby Tournament:
The rearranged date for this adult doubles tournament will be Sunday 6th November, starting at 1.30pm. We have a full complement of 8 ladies and 8 men, which is great news!
November Social Doubles Tournament:
This will be held on Friday18th November at 9am. When I checked the sign up sheet in the clubhouse today, there were 13 names on the list. So, just 3 spaces left should you wish to play.
Ladder matches:
Tomorrow (Friday) is the last date for matches in all ladders. I shall take down the results on Saturday and report the results soon after.
Ladies’ Night:
The next Ladies’ Night will be on Monday 14th November starting at 7pm. All ladies welcome!
Cayless Chilli Tournament:
8 ladies and 8 men took part in this popular annual doubles tournament on Sunday 9th October. It was lovely to welcome back Fran Cayless who competed in the tournament. After the round robin of ladies’ doubles and men’s doubles, the knockout stage was a seeded mixed tournament. A very tense final was won by Chris Hollis and Sue Simpson who beat Simon Fox and Carol Cook 6-5. This having recovered from being 4-0 and 5-2 down.
Mix ’n’ Match 2016/17
The 1st round is now well underway, with several matches having been played. Please note that 1st round matches need to have been arranged and played by Friday 11th November. Any problems, please get in touch with me as soon as possible.
