November 2017 enewsletter

Don’t forget to have a go at the tennis quiz at the end of this newsletter. There will be a prize for the winning entry! Even if you can’t answer all the questions, please have a go as you never know your luck!

On Thursday 14th December from 8pm, there will be an STC gathering at The Cork House in Lower Street, Stansted to celebrate Christmas as well as another great year of tennis at Stansted Tennis Club. All members are very welcome to come along.
At the adult morning club session from 9.30am on Friday 22nd December, all members are warmly invited to come along to play tennis and/or enjoy some mulled wine and mince pies.

I shall be compiling the 2018 Clubhouse Cleaning rota next month. Thanks to everyone who has kept the clubhouse looking so clean and tidy so far this year. This year we really struggled to fill the 12 places. So, if you would like to volunteer to go on next year’s rota, please could you drop me an e-mail. It would be lovely to hear from you!

The draw for Round 1 of the new Ladies’ Doubles Mix ’n’ Match tournament has just been announced. Round 2 of the Mixed Doubles Mix “n” Match tournament has just got underway. Please could all players involved ensure that they make early contact with their opponents to arrange a date as we are now getting into the busy run up to Christmas.

14 players took part in this popular adult doubles tournament. Congratulations to Chris Hollis and Lisa King who beat Sam Philp and Sue Simpson 6-4 in the final. The consolation draw was won by Jon Budd and Diane Brown. After the tennis, the players enjoyed a magnificent chilli lunch.

This will be held at Debbie’s house on Friday 24th November at 7pm. If you have anything you would like to relay to the committee prior to the meeting, please either contact a committee member directly or use the suggestion box in the clubhouse. We are always very keen to recruit any members who would like to support us by becoming a “Friend of the Committee”. Please get in touch if you would like to volunteer.

Thanks to those of you who have responded for the request in last month’s letter for ideas to amend or improve next year’s ladder competitions. Please do let me know your views if you have not yet responded. All the ladder results are now up on the Clubhouse noticeboard and congratulations to all the winners.

The next Ladies’ Night will be on Monday 11th December starting at 7pm. All ladies are welcome to attend!

12 players competed in this doubles tournament, the last of the season, which took place on Friday 17th November. Congratulations to the winners, Clive Carroll and Lisa King, who beat Tudor Owen and Ruby Hollis, 6-2 in the final. The players enjoyed a bring and share lunch after the tournament.

Thank you to the 4 members who have “opted in” to the 2018 Wimbledon ballot via the LTA website over the last month. That makes a total of 41 out of a total membership of over 200. If you have not yet done so, please visit the LTA website and “opt in” – it only takes a few clicks of the mouse. If you are not already a BTM (British Tennis Member), you will need to register on the LTA website and then “opt in”. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Don’t forget, if you have not “opted in” you will not be eligible for next year’s STC ballot for Wimbledon tickets. The more members who “opt in”, the more Wimbledon tickets we will be allocated by the LTA.
