Stansted Tennis Club

March 2018 enewsletter

Welcome to the March e-newsletter, which will hopefully let you know all that is going on at the Club at the moment! Please note the various important deadlines which are coming up in the next couple of weeks.

Don’t forget to have a go at solving the tennis anagram at the end of this newsletter. There will be a prize for the winning entry!

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING:
15 members attended this year’s AGM on Thursday 22nd February. Many thanks to Jan Hollis for hosting. Debbie Lane stood down as a General Member. She was thanked for all her hard work and enthusiasm whilst on the committee and was presented with a bouquet of flowers. Fiona Kelly was elected to serve on the new committee as a General Member – welcome Fiona!
Please could you let me know if you would like your name added to the “Friends of the Committee” list, which is due to be published soon.

NEXT COMMITTEE MEETING:
The next Committee meeting will be held this Thursday, 22nd March at my house. If any members have any issues to raise, please either contact a committee member directly, or use the suggestion box in the Clubhouse.

2018 MEMBERSHIP SUBSCRIPTIONS:
Please note that in order to benefit from the discounted rates, the deadline for renewing your STC membership is 31st March (less than two weeks away now)! The deadline will be strictly adhered to. Please could you let me know if you do not intend to renew your membership – this will save you being sent lots of reminders.

CLUBSPARK:
On behalf of the committee and all STC members, I would like to say a very big thank you to Fiona Pye for all of her hard work and perseverance in getting ClubSpark, the online court booking system, up and running recently. Fingers crossed, there have been very few teething problems and I am sure you will agree that it looks very clear on the diary. Fiona has asked me to remind members that the common mistake is not going into “Advanced Options” and then not realising that the category and sub category boxes are drop downs. If this sequence is followed it all falls into place and the “Name” box is shown, which is the information shown on the diary. Please also note that initials of players , rather than full names should be used for reasons of security.

RULE AMENDMENT:
Please note that there has been an amendment to the “Busy Court Rule”. From now on, the 7 game rule has been removed, so it is simply 20 minutes before those playing need to come off court and those waiting go on.

2018 LADDERS:
Please note that the sign up sheets are on the Clubhouse noticeboards for both the Junior and Adult ladders for the upcoming season. The deadline for entires is 31st March. If by that date, there are not the minimum amount of entries required, then that particular ladder will not run this year.

SOCIAL TOURNAMENT:
The sign up sheet is on the Clubhouse noticeboard for the Ladies’ Doubles Social Tournament, which will take place on Friday 13th April at 9am. There are 6 places remaining!

HOSPITAL CUP:
Please note that the sign up sheets for this year’s Hospital Cup are on the clubhouse noticeboard. Not many have signed up so far, so why not have a go! The deadline for entries is 6th April.

LADIES’ NIGHT:
The next Ladies’ Night will be on Monday 9th April starting at 7pm. All ladies are welcome to attend!

WIMBLEDON BALLOT:
Good news ! I received an email today from the LTA allocating us 18 pairs of tickets for this year’s STC Wimbledon Ballot. Please keep an eye on the rather full clubhouse noticeboard for the sign up sheets which will be posted quite soon.
