Stansted Tennis Club

December 2017 enewsletter

Don’t forget to have a go at the tennis quiz at the end of this newsletter. There will be a prize for the winning entry! There’s only one question this month to encourage as many members as possible to enter.

FRIDAY MORNING SOCIAL:
Please come along and have a game of tennis and enjoy some festive mulled wine and mince pies this Friday (22nd December) from 9.30am. It’s completely free – no donations of money or refreshments required! If you have not already done so, please could you drop me a quick email to let me know if you intend to attend, just so we can keep an eye on numbers for catering.

THE CORK HOUSE:
Thanks to the 20 or so STC members who braved the elements last Thursday night for Christmas drinks at The Cork House. A good evening was had by all!

USED TENNIS BALLS:
STC donated 200 used tennis balls to put in the children’s shoe -boxes which go abroad every Christmas. We have been doing this for several years and it is very much appreciated by the Stansted Churches who distribute them. Also, all the used balls from the Club are re-cycled and we now get £40 per 200 balls from Recycaball. We recently sent 200 balls and another 200 are ready to go. You can see the value to the Club of this income, so please continue to leave your used balls in the boxes at the Tennis Club and do not throw them away. This all involves a great deal of work, sorting, washing and distributing the balls, so a very big thank you to Jan Hollis for all her constant hard work on this particular project.

MIX “N” MATCH TOURNAMENT:
If you have not been able to play your matches over the last couple of weeks due to the frozen courts, please don’t worry as I shall extend the play by dates for each event. Please could you let me know if any of you are having problems arranging your matches.

NEXT COMMITTEE MEETING:
This will be held at Fiona’s house on Friday 5th January at 7pm. If you have anything you would like to relay to the committee prior to the meeting, please either contact a committee member directly or use the suggestion box in the clubhouse. We are always very keen to recruit any members who would like to support us by becoming committee members or a “Friend of the Committee”. Please get in touch if you are interested.

LADIES’ NIGHT:
The next Ladies’ Night will be on Monday 8th January starting at 7pm. All ladies are welcome to attend!

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING:
Please make a note in your diary that the 2018 AGM will be held on Tuesday 20th February at 8pm at 105 Cambridge Road, Stansted.

WIMBLEDON BALLOT:
Thank you to the 24 members who have “opted in” to the 2018 Wimbledon ballot via the LTA website over the last month. That makes 65 out of a total membership of over 200. If you have not yet done so, please visit the LTA website and “opt in” – it only takes a few clicks of the mouse. If you are not already a BTM (British Tennis Member), you will need to register on the LTA website and then “opt in”. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Don’t forget, if you have not “opted in” you will not be eligible for next year’s STC ballot for Wimbledon tickets. The more members who “opt in”, the more Wimbledon tickets we will be allocated by the LTA.
